2022 Flowers: Salvia, Petunia, Calibrachoa
In 2022, approximately 40 cultivars each of salvia, petunia, and calibrachoa species were showcased in the display gardens. Using a paired T-test design, the petunia and calibrachoa were compared with mycorrhizae (added to the potting media during greenhouse cultivation) vs. without mycorrhizae. Though we found the petunia benefited from the mycorrhizae, the calibrachoa trials were inconclusive due to their struggle to uptake iron in the alkaline soils that exist at this site (pH ~7.3). Though chlorosis limited the calibrachoa performance, some cultivars did surprisingly well in the beds. Three rounds of evaluation and ranking data and seasonal averages are shown in the spreadsheet found here: PetuniaSalviaCallie_2022evals
